The Gift Economy with the Karma Kitchen in Berkley
Cut, cut, paste. Today I was working on a scrapbook and came across this quote.
Ah yes, country roads. This song brings me back to my childhood. I imagine myself running through the tall cornfields of southern Ontario. Getting lost. Getting found. Biting into a juicy fresh peach, swinging on the branches of a Willow tree, and letting the day drift away.

This photo was taken during an exercise in ‘deep’ listening - part of leadership development during my Master’s. I was lucky enough to sit on the edge of the dock with my dear friend Carlotta. Listening to her italian accent roll off her tongue, speaking about tales of love, made the time oh so enjoyable.
What exactly is ‘deep’ listening? It is being in the present moment and listening to others with an open mind, and an open heart. It is letting go of judgement. It is also listening intentionally to your inner voice. Each day I take time to ask myself a few questions:
- What makes me come alive?
- What do I need to do today to feel my best?
- What can I do to give back and help others?
Shhh. Silence speaks volumes. Lean in and listen, you may be surprised what happens.
